Our Current Strays If your pet has been brought to the Springfield Humane Society as a stray, it will be necessary for you to pay a boarding fee and show proof of ownership to claim him/her. Ownership can be proven through evidence of a city license, current rabies vaccination certificate or vet records describing the pet and showing you as owner. Proof of ownership is required to protect pet owners and their animals and ensure that no animal is claimed by the wrong individual. If you reside in Springfield, you must also visit the Town Clerk's office prior to coming to claim your pet. That office will provide you with the necessary paperwork allowing us to release the dog. If you are a resident of Weathersfield and your pet is picked up by the town constable, it will be necessary for you to contact the constable (356-7042) to make arrangements to claim your pet. Weathersfield places their stray pets at the Claremont Animal Hospital in Claremont, NH.
